UPDATE: Bibb Sheriff Investigating Inmate Death
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate that happened around 4:00 Friday afternoon at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, inmates were in their cells waiting for evening meals. 34-year-old William Giles III appeared to be asleep when staff arrived, but after trying to wake him, they found he was unresponsive.
Deputies and nurses immediately went into the cell to provide medical services as they waited for the paramedics.
According to investigators, there were no obvious signs of foul play. The inmate was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m.
Bibb County Deputy Coroner Miley says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The inmate’s name is not being released until family has been notified.
