Upcoming Event Helps Middle Georgia Kids Get Excited About Reading

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hundreds of children in Middle Georgia are expected to participate in a day full of fun, and literacy during the Adventure Reading Festival. The event, put on by Mercer University’s Service Scholars Program, is a way for children to get excited about reading as they head into summer.

At the event, students from Mercer will dress like storybook characters, members of Mercer Theatre will demonstrate a stage combat with swords and cutlasses, and award-winning musician Floco Torres will serve as the emcee.

The elementary school students will also listen to Mercer graduate, Rhonda Singletary, as she read lines from her first book, Project Dreams.

The event is free and is open to the public. It’s scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 28th from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. at Tattnall Square Park.
