Uggla Homers As Braves Topple Mets 9-4
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) – Dan Uggla hit his fifth home run of the spring and drove in three runs and the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets 9-4 Friday.
Uggla, who hit a career-high 36 homers last season, broke a 4-4 tie with his two-out shot to left field in the fifth. He also drove in a run in the first on a grounder that scored Martin Prado, who had two triples and drove in two runs.
Mike Minor had his 14-inning scoreless streak snapped when he gave up an unearned run in the first when Daniel Murphy walked and scored when Lucas Duda reached on an error by Prado. The Mets also scored an earned run off Minor in the second when Josh Thole led off with a triple and scored on Vinny Rottino’s single.
Mike Baxter drove in two runs for the Mets.
Chipper Jones, who announced Thursday that he will retire at the end of the season, had the day off and did not play.
