U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock secures $1.1M in Hurricane Helene recovery funds for the City of Soperton
U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock announced Wednesday he secured an additional $87 million in payments owed to Georgia communities.

SOPERTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Soperton will receive more than $1.1 million in federal disaster relief funding to help cover costs from Hurricane Helene.
U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock announced Wednesday he secured $1,122,112.83 for the City of Soperton.
“The people of Georgia stepped up when our communities were devastated after Hurricane Helene made landfall, but for too long this administration has failed to fulfill its promises and pay their share,” Warnock said. “This trend of incredibly delayed funds cannot become the status quo. I am proud to unlock this latest round of relief funding and I hope this signals the end of chaos and bureaucracy around slowing our disaster recovery process.”
The announcement follows earlier efforts that helped secure hundreds of millions in recovery aid. Warnock says more than $1 billion in disaster-related federal funding has now been unlocked for Georgia.
The funding comes as parts of South Georgia, including areas near Soperton, continue recovery efforts more than a year after the storm, with officials also dealing with wildfire risks fueled by leftover debris.
