U.S. House candidate Danny Glover begins “Save Our Security” tour in Macon
Glover, who says he will challenge Rep. Sanford Bishop for Georgia’s second congressional district seat, says cuts to Social Security could impact more than 150,000 residents in the district.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – U.S. House candidate Danny Glover of Macon began his “Save Our Security” tour in Macon on Monday.
Glover, who says he will challenge Rep. Sanford Bishop for Georgia’s second congressional district seat, says cuts to Social Security could impact more than 150,000 residents in the district. Glover says his campaign will focus on several programs and funding cuts stemming from the Trump Administration but wanted to prioritize Social Security as it impacts several of his family members.
“I know what it is to stretch that check, that $780 each month and not make it to the end of the month,” Glover said. “So, any talks about cutting it, it directly affects my family. I know it affects all types of families across this district. And so, we want to start bringing some attention to that. We want to start providing some actionable steps for how we as the citizens, as the constituents of this district, can start bringing some resolution to this issue.”
Glover held town halls at St. Paul A.M.E. Church and Macedonia Church. Glover commended Bishop, who was first elected to his current office in 1992, but says the Democratic Party needs new, more tech-savvy leadership that’s equipped to take on Trump in the current age of social media.
“The battle is no longer the same as it was in 1992,” Glover said. “The battle is more digital. The battle is dealing with folks like Elon Musk, dealing with folks like DOGE, and dealing with folks like Trump, who don’t always like to play by the rules. And so, for this next generation, for this next chapter in this district. “I think we need younger leaders. I think we need leaders with the energy, leaders with the temperament, and leaders with the will of the people to go and take the voices from our district to D.C. to advocate for us.”
