Tyler Robinson expected to face charges in Charlie Kirk shooting

Authorities say 22-year-old Tyler Robinson is expected to face multiple charges including aggravated murder.

(NBC)- Authorities say 22-year-old Tyler Robinson is expected to face multiple charges — including aggravated murder — in connection with the attack on conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

According to The Washington Post, Robinson appeared to confess in an online chat shortly before turning himself in. In the message, he allegedly wrote: “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all… it was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.” The outlet cited two people familiar with the chat as well as screenshots.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed investigators are also reviewing a text exchange in which Robinson allegedly discussed targeting Kirk because of his political views. “He had a text message exchange with another individual in which he had an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and he was going to do it because of his hatred of what Charlie stood for,” Patel said.

The FBI added that Robinson is not cooperating with investigators, but his DNA was found on two pieces of evidence tied to the case.

While authorities have not confirmed an official motive, President Donald Trump directly blamed the political left. “Looks like it was radicalized over the internet, and it’s radicalized on the left. He’s a left,” Trump said.

The White House has pledged a sweeping response. Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said, “We are going to use every resource we have at the Department of Justice, Homeland Security and throughout this government to identify, disrupt, dismantle and destroy these networks.”

Classes resumed at Utah Valley University as Robinson remains in custody under special watch status, requiring closer supervision.
