Two Wilkinson Co. Teachers Officially Charged with Child Molestation
IRWINTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two Wilkinson County high school teachers are facing official charges for molesting a female student.
A Wilkinson County grand jury met Monday morning and indicted 29-year-old math teacher Cornelius Dontae Jones (pictured top) and 43-year-old JROTC instructor Rodney Hunter (pictured bottom). Both men are accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.
Wilkinson County District Attorney Fred Bright tells 41NBC Jones was indicted on four counts: aggravated child molestation, sexual assault by a teacher, sodomy, and child molestation. The first three counts revolve around January 22 when Jones had the student perform oral sex on him in the classroom. The last count is based on when Jones was hugging and kissing the student on December 19, 2012.
Bright says Hunter is charged with one count child molestation. On January 4, he is accused of kissing the student on the lips at school.
Security cameras inside the high school caught some of the sexual acts.
Both teachers have bonded out of the Wilkinson County jail. They are not allowed to contact the student or interact with any child under 16, except for family members.
The next step is an arraignment where the defendants give a plea. There is no date set for that, but Bright says it should be within the next month or two. Bright expects the trial to start sometime later this year.
