Two people injured after small plane crash in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUTNY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two people suffered minor injuries after a small plane crashed in a wooded area of Washington County, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 9:25 p.m. on October 10, Washington County 911 received a call from one of the individuals onboard, who reported that their aircraft had gone down near Highway 68 and Highway 540.

Deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel quickly responded. Using drones and coordinated ground searches, crews located the two occupants behind the Limestone Plant on Short 68.

Both individuals were evaluated by EMS at the scene and were found to have only minor injuries, the sheriff’s office said. The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and will lead the investigation into the crash.

Sheriff Joel Cochran released the following statement:

“I want to commend everyone involved, from our 911 dispatchers to the deputies, firefighters, EMS personnel, and community members who assisted in the search and rescue. Teamwork is essential in situations like this, and last night was a clear example of what can be accomplished when we work together.”
