Two new elementary schools named in Bibb County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb school leaders named two new elementary schools during the board meeting Thursday night.

Morgan and Barden Elementary schools are now consolidated. Board members named the new school “Veterans Elementary”. This decision comes after officials looked at the surrounding street names in the area, which were named after generals.

The new school that was formed after King-Danforth and Jones Elementary school consolidated is now “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary”.

Jones Elementary staff requested to be name the school Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy of Health and Science, but the board did not agree to that name because the school has to meet qualifications to be named as a magnet school.

The school district says it is still actively searching for a permanent superintednent. Further discussions on the process will take place during the board’s retreat on Friday.
