FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Two additional arrests have been made after a teacher at Forsyth Methodist Church-Caring for Kids was accused of giving toddlers Benadryl, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office arrested Cathy Stevick and Shelby Webb on March 18 at 9 a.m.

Cathy Stevick, director of Forsyth Methodist Church-Caring for Kids, was charged with three counts of failure to report child abuse, a misdemeanor.

Shelby Webb, a teacher at Forsyth Methodist Church-Caring for Kids, was charged with one count of simple battery, a misdemeanor, and one count of cruelty to children in the first degree, a felony.

Investigators found that a staff member saw another teacher, Kendasja Hughley, giving three children Benadryl before nap time and reported it to Stevick on March 5. According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Stevick did not file a report with authorities until March 9, when accusations began circulating on Facebook.

Hughley turned herself in on March 10 and was originally charged with reckless conduct. She is now charged with six counts of cruelty to children in the first degree, a felony, eight counts of simple battery, a misdemeanor, and two counts of reckless conduct, a misdemeanor.

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning issued an emergency closure order on March 17. The order will shut down the daycare for 21 days while DECAL continues its investigation, unless the facility appeals the decision within 48 hours.
