Two Mercer University students admit to vandalizing bear statues
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two Mercer University students admitted to vandalizing bear statues from two parks.
Mercer’s Police Chief tells 41NBC patrol officers found the bears on the corner of Coleman and Adams Avenues late Monday night. Officers say the students took the statues from Daisy and Tattnall Parks and left them near campus.
School officials say the students will face disciplinary action.
“This is damaged property. These bears are not cheap by any means. Yes, you could face criminal charges and possibly criminal charges could be brought forth,” explained Chief Collins.
Mercer University is working with the Macon Arts Alliance to replace the statues. No word on how much that will cost the school.
