Two men arrested after 9-year-old shot while sleeping, charged with aggravated assault

Deputies were patrolling the area of 1105 Edward St in Fort Valley around 1:30 a.m. when they heard gunshots in the area on July 12.

UPDATE (9/5) : Two men have been arrested for a shooting that took place on July 12, where a 9-year-old victim was shot, according to Fort Valley Police Department Chief of Police DJ Flores.

19-year-old Jackson Gore was located in Bartow County by the United States Marshal Service and arrested.

25-year-old Deshard Postell was already in custody for an unrelated case.

Gore and Postell were charged with aggravated assault and additional charges are being sought by the Fort Valley Police Department.

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Fort Valley Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left a 9-year-old wounded, according to a press release.

Deputies were patrolling the area of 1105 Edward St. in Fort Valley around 1:30 a.m. when they heard gunshots in the area on July 12.

Deputies went to Building E at the Lakeview Apartments and saw a woman come out of the breezeway waving people down for help.

The woman told deputies that a 9-year-old had been shot while lying in her bed and that she was upstairs in the apartment. The 9-year-old had a gunshot wound on her right shoulder.

According to a press release, the child was originally transported by Peach County EMS, which in turn had the child airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta (possibly Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta).

The incident is still under investigation.
