Investigators from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the two men stole the tanks from the Kroger on Pio Nono Avenue and the Mini Foods Convenience Store on Ingleside Avenue on Wednesday, February 10. 52 tanks in total were stolen. A Bibb deputy reviewed video surveillance footage from the Kroger and saw a white van pull up to where the tanks were kept. Two men got out of the van and took the tanks.

Saturday morning, another deputy noticed a white van in the parking lot of Young’s Grocery on Montpelier Avenue and remembered the car from the surveillance video. The deputy pulled the car over for a traffic stop, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy saw circular impressions in the carpet of the car’s floor. The deputy who reviewed the Kroger surveillance video identified the van driver by the same clothing as the suspect from the video of the Kroger theft. Both men were taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, questioned and charged with the crimes.
