Two arrested in Sparta after traffic stop leads to drug discovery

SPARTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Two people were arrested in Sparta after a traffic stop led to the discovery of illegal substances, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
The stop occurred at 12:55 a.m. March 10. The deputy sheriff was patrolling near Hancock State Prison when he saw a vehicle driving on Ga. Hwy 15 South toward Cody Johnson Road.
The driver failed to maintain her lane, turned onto Cody Johnson Road, and went behind a residence. The deputy activated his emergency lights and pulled behind the vehicle, which was registered in Norcross, Georgia.
According to the news release, a man exited the passenger side of the vehicle and was ordered to return inside. The man walked toward the deputy’s patrol car and was told again to return to the vehicle, but he refused. He then began pacing near the car, telling the driver to get out. The woman exited the vehicle, and the deputy again told her to return to the car, but she refused.
The deputy called for backup, and when other units arrived, both suspects were arrested. Upon further investigation, the deputy noticed two pillowcases tied together in the vehicle, which appeared to contain contraband. The release also notes a strong odor emanating from inside the vehicle.
The driver, Carla Ivone Casia-Paz, faces charges of failure to maintain lane, possession with intent to distribute, and conspiracy.
Passenger Carlos Jaimes faces charges of possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy.
