Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office Gets National Recognition
MACON/Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office is getting national recognition. The sheriff’s department won the National Traffic Safety Award at the Annual International Association of Chief of Police Conference in San Diego, California. The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office won several awards including the National Impaired Driving Award.
The National Impaired Driving Award is judged by year-round efforts to detect and apprehend impaired drivers. Twiggs County decreased its traffic fatalities. In 2010, there were 4 deaths, and there were no fatalities in 2011.
The sheriff’s office also won a 2013 Ford Explorer in a drawing at the award ceremony. Sheriff Mitchum commended all of his deputies for doing a great job in keeping the community safe. In 2011, there were only 2 driving related injuries which was a 66 percent decrease from 2010.
