Twiggs County Sheriff Fires Two Guards After Inmate Escape
JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum fired two jail guards after he says they weren’t properly checking on inmates when one escaped Sunday morning.
Early Sunday morning, 45-year-old Troy Criswell escaped from the jail after pulling a shower head off the wall, and escaped through the hold in the wall. He was found three days later after a multi-county search.
Mitchum says two guards on staff at the time of the escape were Wes Graham and Krystal Watkins.
The sheriff told 41NBC over the phone he doesn’t feel good about having to fire Graham and Watkins, but negligence will not be tolerated on his staff.
