JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents across Middle Georgia are bracing for the impact of Hurricane Debby. In Twiggs County, a flood watch remains in place until Tuesday evening, and the county Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is preparing for the upcoming weather threat.

Shaun Hart, the Fire Chief and EMA Director in Twiggs County, says it’s possible that residents could see falling trees and road washouts during the storm. To prepare for the potential impact, the department is making sure all chainsaws are available in case trees need to be cleared from roadways.

Chief Hart is urging residents to watch out for any Code Red Alerts on their phones, which will provide instructions in case residents need to shelter in place or evacuate.

“We have here in Twiggs [County] what we call the Code Red Alert, which those alerts can go out to alert any of the citizens here about any impending dangers or weather hazards. That gives them an early warning, so if [life-threatening weather conditions do]  happen, we can help them get out of that area pretty quickly,” he said.

He also advised residents to stock up on water, have working flashlights and pack their patience as they anticipate responding to numerous calls during the weather event.
