MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Tucker Road will close to through traffic between Foster Road and Peake Road next week as crews begin work on a larger construction project covering nearly half a mile of the roadway.

The project includes replacing two functionally obsolete bridges, one over Rocky Creek and another over Interstate 475, along with new roadway approaches. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the closure is expected to last up to 90 days, weather permitting.

A signed detour will be in place to guide drivers around the area during construction. GDOT officials are urging motorists to remain alert and follow all posted signage near the work zone.

“When we have a bridge closure, that bridge is being replaced, so if you go through that, there’s not going to be a bridge there, there’s not going to be a road there,” said Gina Snider, GDOT district communications officer. “We need to definitely pay attention, not be on our phones, and just drive alert.”

GDOT says the road closure is expected to begin Monday, January 19, weather permitting, and recommends drivers plan ahead, follow posted detours and use caution while traveling near the construction area.
