(CNN)- President Donald Trump is speaking out about the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, calling the situation “terrible” as the search continues in Arizona.
Trump addressed the case Tuesday, saying he would be willing to provide federal assistance if requested and added that he planned to personally reach out to Savannah Guthrie. “I think it’s terrible. I think it’s a terrible thing,” Trump said when asked about the disappearance.
According to authorities, Nancy Guthrie was reported missing around noon Sunday. Dispatch information described her as a white female, 84 years old, approximately 5-foot-2 with a medium build, and noted she has high blood pressure, a pacemaker, and other cardiac issues.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says investigators are actively reviewing any available medical and electronic data related to Guthrie’s pacemaker that could help determine her whereabouts. Sheriff Chris Nanos also confirmed that DNA samples have been collected from Guthrie’s home and submitted for analysis.
“We’ve submitted all kinds of samples for DNA, and we’ve gotten some back, but nothing to indicate any suspects,” Nanos said.
Meanwhile, at least two media outlets — including a Tucson television station — reported receiving what appeared to be ransom notes connected to the case. When questioned about those reports, Nanos declined to go into specifics, saying investigators are following every lead and sharing information with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is assisting with evaluating evidence.
In a post on X, the sheriff’s department acknowledged awareness of the reported ransom notes but emphasized there is “no credible information indicating this was a targeted incident.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as the search for Nancy Guthrie continues.
