Trial Date Set for Cochran Mayor Accused of Stealing

COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Mayor Clifford Avant will face Superior Court Judge Sara Wall in the federal case against him. The trial is set to start March 19th.

Avant turned himself in last October after taking PVC pipes from the sewage treatment plant in Cochran. Avant donated 25 pipes to his church. The estimated value is $2500. Avant previously told 41NBC he did not believe he was doing anything wrong because the pipes had been untouched for years.
