MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Ahead of the Olympic Games, 41NBC presents ‘Train Like a Champion,’ featuring local athletes who share the basics of their sport.
41NBC went to Barbara Calhoun Park and learned the basics of archery from Terry Wietstruk and Lee Ford-Faherty.
Wietstruk is a level 2 coach, a national judge, 2024 National Field Archery Association Indoor Champion, and President of Mid Ga Archery. Ford-Faherty is a level 4 coach with US Archery, and competed in the 2012 London Paralympics.
Wietstruk says it is important that you warm up before you begin the sport. Wietstruk encourages newcomers to practice with a stretchy band for safety before using a bow. Ford-Faherty say the process is to set, set up, load, anchor and then release the arrow.
Mid GA Archery meets every Saturday at 11 a.m. and offer a monthly newcomer class.
