Traffic stop leads to major drug seizure, arrest in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A traffic stop in Monroe County led to the seizure of several pounds of suspected drugs and items authorities say are commonly associated with prison drops, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Caravan around 8:25 p.m. Friday, September 26. The sheriff’s office says a deputy smelled marijuana while approaching the vehicle, leading to a search.

During the search, deputies reported finding approximately 2.3 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, 10.3 pounds of suspected marijuana, 12 grams of suspected fentanyl pills and 325 grams of suspected marijuana wax.

Deputies also reported finding a heavy-lift wing drone, four 18-inch machetes, a large folding knife, a knife sharpener, two 12-inch hacksaw blades, two cans of high-potency OC spray and 29 cell phones and chargers.

Speakers, lighters and other miscellaneous items were also found, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators said the combination of items is consistent with those commonly associated with “prison drops.”

The driver, identified as Jalen Jones of Loganville, was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking fentanyl, trafficking marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana wax, possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana and possession of tools with intent to commit a crime.

Jones is being held in the Monroe County Jail without bond. The case remains under investigation.
