Traffic accident in East Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A traffic accident occured around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on Shurling Drive that resulted in a driver and passenger being transported to the hospital.

A Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy observed the vehicle, a 2000 Lincoln LS, driving in excess of the speed limit. When he attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle refused to comply.

The driver traveled east on Shurling Drive into Jones County before turning around and returning to Bibb County, refusing to stop. The pursuit ended when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole.

The driver and a passenger were trapped in the vehicle. Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services were notified and Fire Rescue extracted the men on arrival. They were both taken to Navicent Health. Their names and conditions are not known at this time.
