Town Hall Meeting to Discuss New Animal Shelter, Residents Angry With The Location
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The location for the new Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare Site will be the hot topic of discussion during a town hall meeting Monday night.
41 NBC reported residents who live off Fulton Mill Road say they don’t want the new animal shelter in their backyard. Bibb County officials gave the green light to move forward with the plans earlier this month.
Residents say it is a quiet, family neighborhood and they don’t want it there. Several residents are also angry with how this whole process played out. They say the county never came to them to hear their thoughts and that this town hall meeting is too little, too late.
“Have a town hall first. Get the feedback and then go see what they need to do, not wait and make the plans to do it and then try to push it on everyone else,” resident Mike Ratterree said. “That’s not how the system works.
Ratterree started a petition against the new location. He says he’s collected around 150 signatures asking the county to move the shelter somewhere else.
The town hall meeting will be held Monday night at 7pm at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church located at 5455 Mt. Pleasant Church Road in Macon. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.
