Tornado takes off part of a church’s roof in South Bibb
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The South Bibb community is still cleaning up after Wednesday’s tornado. Gateway Fellowship Church on Skipper Road, is trying to figure out, “what’s next” after the roof came off during the storm.
“I don’t know what happened. It came so quick,” lead paster Jeremy Singletary said.
Wednesday just after 5:30, Singletary’s wife came to him asking if they’ll still have service at their church.
“It looked like any typical hard rain coming through. I didn’t think anything about the wind damage,” he said.
Little did Singletary know, the storm was more than just a thunder-storm.
“I started hearing the metal flapping on our building and I knew something serious was happening then,” Singletary said.
The storm caused a lot of damage to Gateway.
“The awning was ripped off, we lost part of our roof in the gym, and then our storage building had the roof completely taken off,” he said.
Singletary says about 20 people were in the church at the time of the storm. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
He says he didn’t hear the tornado siren until after the storm came through. Church services will resume as normal.
