KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) – The chief judge of Nepal’s Supreme Court has been sworn into office leading an interim government that will hold elections in three months.
The appointment of Khilraj Regmi on Thursday morning ends an impasse since the last parliament’s term expired almost a year ago.
Deputy Prime Minister Narayankaji Shrestha said leaders of the four largest political parties signed the final agreement to appoint Khilraj Regmi late Wednesday.
The new government’s main task is to hold elections by June 21 to choose a new Constituent Assembly to write a constitution and double as the country’s parliament.
