Tips to create an emergency kit
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Emergency situations can happen at any time and you need to be ready for anything. 41NBC’s Amanda Castro caught up with professional organizer Andi Willis to find out how you can make your very own emergency kit.
Willis says you want to make an emergency kit that will have enough supplies to last you for 72 hours.
The basic essentials include food and water. She says you need a gallon of water per person in your family per day. You also want to store non-perishable food items, but check the dates of expiration periodically.
You also want a flashlight with plenty of extra batters, a weather radio, and a first aid kit. She also suggests adding a whistle and a wrench to your kit.
Willis says you should also have cash in small denominations. Keep copies of your records and extra medications in the kit as well.
Willis suggests storing your emergency kit in a portable container so you can take it with you if you need to leave your home.
