Tifton woman accused of using dead man’ social security number.
TIFTON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Investigators with the State Board of Workers’ Compensation says a Tifton woman used a dead California man’s social security number to get a job.
According to a news release, Bertha Gutierrez-Martinez used the SSN to get a job and later file a workers’ compensation claim for benefits after she was hurt on the job. Martinez is also accused of fraudulently completing State and Federal Tax Withholding documents using the SSN.
She’s charged with aggravated identity fraud, identity fraud, providing false statements and fraudulent documents to the State, and making false and misleading statements in order to obtain workers’ compensation benefits.
She’s being held in the Tift County jail.
