Three suspects arrested after downtown Milledgeville police chase, crash

Around 3:10 a.m. August 13, officers responded to reports of three men attempting to enter vehicles at an apartment complex at 605 North Columbia Street.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT-DT) – Three suspects are in custody after a vehicle pursuit early Wednesday led to a crash and foot chase in downtown Milledgeville, according to the Milledgeville Police Department.

Around 3:10 a.m. August 13, officers responded to reports of three men attempting to enter vehicles at an apartment complex at 605 North Columbia Street.

While patrolling the area, an officer spotted a vehicle operating without headlights. As the vehicle approached his patrol car, the driver accelerated. The officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit.

The chase ended when the driver lost control and struck the side of Century Bank downtown. All three occupants ran from the scene. An officer deployed K9 Diesel, who located the suspects hiding nearby.

Police said the vehicle was stolen from Sandersville and contained multiple stolen firearms and key fobs belonging to other vehicles reported stolen there. Investigators from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Sandersville Police Department are working with Milledgeville investigators on the case.

Preliminary findings indicate the three suspects are connected to multiple vehicle thefts and entering-auto incidents in Sandersville and Washington County. One suspect told investigators they had traveled to Milledgeville intending to commit additional entering-auto offenses.

Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
