Three officers killed, two wounded in Pennsylvania shooting

(CNN)- A violent ambush in central Pennsylvania has left three police officers dead and two others gravely wounded after they attempted to serve a restraining order on a suspect linked to domestic violence.
Officials confirmed the fallen officers were members of the Northern York Regional Police Department. The injured deputies serve with the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Governor Josh Shapiro called the tragedy “an absolutely tragic and devastating day for York County and for the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” adding, “This kind of violence isn’t okay.”
According to law enforcement sources, officers were serving a restraining order connected to the suspect’s ex-girlfriend when the man, dressed in camouflage, ambushed them from a cornfield. Witness Dave Miller described hearing gunfire near a barn, recalling, “I just saw a lot of chaos and saw some bodies.”
Law enforcement returned fire, killing the suspect at the scene.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed federal agents are now assisting in the investigation. Law enforcement analyst John Miller noted the suspect had a history of stalking, trespassing, and other acts meant to instill fear, saying the case is a stark reminder of how domestic situations can “spin out of control” violently and quickly.
Governor Shapiro urged Pennsylvanians to honor the sacrifice of first responders while pressing for stronger efforts to prevent gun violence. “We need to do better when it comes to looking out for those who are in need, so we don’t have to deal with tragedies like this,” he said.
