Three new Habitat homes dedicated for World Habitat Day
“I own it, it’s mine!” shouted Porsche Thomas as she unlocks the door to her brand new home.
Macon Habitat for Humanity dedicated the homes to new families in recognition of World Habitat Day.
Thomas was one of the new homeowners.
She says her three children, Markell Thomas, 10, Aarion Wiggins, 8, and Ha’lynn Wiggins, 6, are looking forward to moving into their new home on Carmen Place.
“They’re so excited they can’t wait,” says Thomas. “They finally got a yard to play in, you know, bedrooms, it’s a very nice home.”
The thomas family joins the Davis and the Brown families in getting the new Habitat homes.
The Davis’s new house is located on Roy Avenue and the Brown’s new home is located on Pharr Avenue.
The Executive Director of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, Harold Tessendorf says the project is a commnuity effort.
“With the dedication of another three homes that our affiliates thanks to God, and also volunteers and donors, across the city that made it possible for us to complete,” says Tessendorf
Representatives from Mercer University, Walmart, Scott’s Health Mart Pharmacy, and others donated household items to the new homeowners.
“We’re doing that as a part of a commitment to continue helping families around the world, meet their need for safe, decent, and affordable shelter,” added Tessendorf.
Thomas is already getting familiar with her new home. She says she helped to build every area of her new house.
