Thousands of People Race for a Cure in Byron
BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An estimated 3,000 people filled the streets of Byron to run and walk for a cure.
Every year, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure aims to race money and awareness for breast cancer. This year’s run took place at North Peach Park. Walkers and runners were greeted by cheerleaders, food and music. Survivors wore pink shirts and gathered at a designated tent to share stories.
Robin Preston of Warner Robins started her battle with breast cancer two years ago. She says without the support of her family, she would have never made it. For her, that’s what makes this walk so important.
“Let’s find a cure,” Preston said, “and help those who don’t have the family support, the financial support and the help that I did. That’s what this is all about.”
