Thousands of Eggs Donated to Middle Georgia Charities
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- In the spirit of the Easter season, the largest producer and distributor of eggs in the U.S. donated more than 64,000 of them to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank Wednesday.
The donation is courtesy of Cal-Maine Foods, who will be donating to 11 cities country wide, with each location getting 180 cases. That equals nearly a million eggs! In case you’re wondering, laid end to end, that’s 35 and a half miles long- enough for plenty of omlettes.
Hunter Beall, a processing manager at Cal-maine, says he’s glad to provide to the community,
and give back to those in need.
“It’s good to give back to the local community this time of year as everybody gets together, those that are less fortunate can receive some of this good protein that we grow right here in the state of Georgia.” said Beall.
Executive director of the Community Food Bank, Ronald Raleigh, says all the donated eggs are going to organizations in 24 middle Georgia counties. Both Raleigh and Beall also say there may be another egg donation, around Christmas time.
