Thousands of dollars worth of diesel fuel stolen from Fall Line Freeway Project

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for the people responsible for stealing a massive amount of diesel fuel from the Fall Line Freeway construction site.

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Major Scott Deason said, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning more than 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel was stolen from two storage tanks on Harmony Church Road.

“With this volume amount of fuel you just don’t pick this up in a pick-up truck and small containers,” said Deason.

The diesel fuel stolen from Sunbelt Construction company is worth more than $75,000, according to Deason. Investigators do not have any suspects. But, they have an idea of who would want to take fuel.

“It would have to be someone in some kind of of construction business land, clearing business or any kind of business that operates heavy equipment or machinery,” added Deason.

Major Deason said his department, along with law enforcement in Washington and Hancock counties, are patroling the refueling areas, most of which are in rural areas.

“We just don’t want these companies to feel like they can’t come throughout Middle Georgia and do business and have their assets being compromised,” he said.
