Thousands expected for Centerville Independence Day Celebration
The Independence Day celebration is going on at Centerville City Hall. There will be inflatables, food vendors and a live band.
Centerville Police Lt. Phillip Pritchett says they are expecting more than 1,000 people to attend the fireworks show.
“We want to ensure that this is a family friendly environment and that everybody is able to come and have fun,” Pritchett said.
More than 20 officers are patrolling the event. They are looking for people who are violating the open container laws. No alcohol is allowed during the Fourth of July celebration.
Centerville Fire Chief Jason Jones is also asking the public to not go near the fireworks area at the Galleria mall.
“We’re doing I think the max they can do out here, is four to six inch shells and, if one of these things explodes right down low to the ground, it could really hurt a citizen,” Jones said. “So, we don’t want that.”
The fireworks show starts around 9 p.m. There are sections of East Church Street that will be closed to allow people to stroll through the food vendor’s area.
Police say officers didn’t have any issue last year and they are hoping for the same this year.
