Thief Takes Several Items from Deceased Woman’s Grave

MACON,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A Macon woman is thankful to have her property back after someone stole it from her daughter’s grave.  According to Macon Police, a number of items were stolen from various graves at Riverside Cemetery. Police say the woman found out about the theft after taking a shortcut through a neighborhood where she noticed several items she had
purchased for her loved one’s grave-site.

The items were displayed in the front yard of a home. Manager of Riverside Cemetery Susan Gordan says several items were recovered by police at an apartment complex less than 2 miles from the cemetery. Gordan says items like a bird bath and a bench are usually not the first things thieves go after.

“Most of the time it is just flower pots…they will see a new arrangement that is really nice, and they will either move it to another lot or take it home with them,” said Gordan.

If you think you might be missing an item from a grave at Riverside Cemetery, you can give the Macon Police Department’s Property Unit a call at 478-803-5658. You must be prepared to describe the missing item(s) in detail.  There is no word yet from Macon Police if any arrests have been made in this case.
