The Voter Information/Participation Project hopes to register as many voters as possible

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Voter Information/Participation Project kicked off today at the Tubman Museum in downtown Macon.

The initiative is a non-partisan campaign aimed to help educate citizens on the importance of voting in local, state, and national elections. The goal is also to register as many voters as possible.

Billy Pitts, chairman of the Project, says it’s important to get everyone from all walks of life registered, “This is not targeted to our black voters, or our white voters, [but] all voters.”

According to Pitts, last year’s congressional election only had a 41.9% voter participation rate, which was the lowest since 1970.
