The Promise Center Comes to Bibb County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC?WMGT)- Bibb County Leaders came together this afternoon to unveil their plan for the Macon Promise Neighborhood. A new center called the Promise Center will help children in the Tindall Heights and Unionville area prepare for school. The focus of the Promise Center is to strengthen educational outcomes for low-income children by working with the Bibb County School System and the community.

In 2011, there was a 38 percent graduation rate at Southwest High School. The Promise Center’s goal is to bring that number up to 75 percent within 5 years.

“So this is especially exciting for wanting to have this Promise Neighborhood and Promise Center that can be an innovative kind of thought center that hopefully will help us to move. Once we have completed our effort here and improve this particular community, we’ll move to other sections of our community,” said Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart.

The Promise Center is expected to open by next spring.
