The Historic Macon Foundation saves another property from their “Fading Five” List

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Historic Macon Foundation announced today the acquisition and future preservation of one of their “Fading Five” properties.

The Ware House, located at 1107 Oglethorpe Street in Macon, was built sometime in the late 1800’s, and has been vacant for about the past 20 years.

“Architecturally, this style is very unique for Beall’s Hill,” said Ethiel Garlington, the Executive Director of the Historic Macon Foundation. “It’s very ornate, it’s much larger than the other houses in the neighborhood. From that perspective, that’s what made it significant and worthy of the Fading Five list.”

The “Fading Five” list is a series of properties that have been deemed historically significant in some way. So far, the Ware House is the third of the five lots purchased and will be turned into a single family home once renovations are complete.

According to Historic Macon, the other two acquired properties are the Bonnybrea-Bedgood House on Georgia Avenue, and the Schofield Iron Works on Fifth Street.

The final two yet-to-be saved properties on the list include the Cotton Avenue Historic District and Ridge Avenue’s Alexander IV Elementary School.
