The heat is on

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A large upper level ridge continues to build over the Eastern U.S. As this occurs temperatures will climb leading to dry conditions. The core of the most intense heat will occur over the Ohio Valley and Mid Atlantic, but Georgia’s proximity to the ridge will ensure that we get in on some of the action. Afternoon highs should be in the mid 90s, then on Tuesday upper 90s are expected. There is a chance of a Heat Advisory for portions of east Middle Georgia on Tuesday, where peak heat indices of 103 to 107 are expected Tuesday afternoon. For Wednesday, widespread highs in the upper 90s and peak afternoon heat indices in the 100 to 108 degree range. The only exception to the Heat Advisory not occurring is thunderstorm activity in the afternoon.
