PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Perry Panthers welcomed the Eastside Eagles to Herb St. John Stadium on Friday night.
This was the only Class 4A second-round game between top-10 teams. #7 Perry is the defending Class 4A champion, but Eastside was ranked higher at #5.
Eastside’s only loss came to second-ranked North Oconee, 40-35. The Eagles hadn’t been tested otherwise since an opening 26-15 victory over 6A Newton.
Eastside beat Hampton 42-0 in the first round. Jayden Barr rushed for 90 yards and three touchdowns. Committed to Georgia Tech, Barr has 1,223 all-purpose yards.
Perry beat St. Pius 38-13 in the first round. Ahmad Gordon rushed for 103 yards, giving him 1,028 on the season and 3,199 in his career. Reid Ginn, coming off the bench, was 17-of-24 passing for 222 yards. Dacorrion Daniels had 66 rushing yards and 76 receiving yards.
Perry had beaten three top-10 teams this season (Peach County, Houston County, Benedictine). Eastside had beaten none.
This was the first meeting between the two schools.
