MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Northeast Raiders hosted the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes in a Class A-Division I semifinal matchup. The winner would play for a state championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on December 17.

The Raiders (12-2) beat Fannin County 48-39 last week in the quarterfinals, Lamar County 21-10 in the second round and Swainsboro 46-7 in the first round.

Northeast finished second to Dublin in Class A-Division I’s Region 2. Its only losses this season were to Dublin and Peach County.

The Raiders were scoring 35.2 points per game and allowing only 14.8 per game.

This was the first trip to the semifinals for a Bibb County school since 2003 (Westside).

The Purple Hurricanes (10-4) beat Worth County 42-38 last week in the quarterfinals, Bleckley County 28-24 in round two and Rabun County 42-21 in the first round.

Fitzgerald finished third in Class A-Division I’s Region 1, scoring 29.0 points per game while allowing 17.9 per game.

The Purple Hurricanes lost in the semifinals to Pierce County last year, but did win the AA state title in 2021.
