DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Dublin Fighting Irish welcomed the Toombs County Bulldogs on Friday night. A win would put the Fighting Irish into the Class A-I state championship game on December 17 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Fighting Irish (13-1) beat Thomasville last week 35-13, beat Jasper County 42-7 in round two and beat Gordon Central 63-6 in round one.
Dublin won Region 2 in Class A-Division 1, scoring 49.2 points per game and allowing 12.9 per game.
The Fighting Irish had never lost to Toombs County (9-0), with the last game in the first round of the 2018 playoffs.
The Bulldogs (12-1) beat Elbert County 56-17 last week in the quarterfinals, Commerce 49-21 in round two and Southwest 62-8 in round one.
Toombs County finished second in Region 3 in Class A-Division I. Its only loss was to Savannah Christian 14-7.
The Bulldogs were scoring 46.3 points per game and allowing only 13 points per game.
This was the first ever trip to the semifinals for No. 1 ranked Toombs County.
