The Biggest Loser Weighs in at Christ Chapel

Spinning off from the hit show ‘The Biggest Loser’, Christ Chapel at Sports Towne decided to have a contest of their own.

More than 50 contestants signed up for the eight week challenge.

Beth White, Associate Pastor at Christ Chapel, says the contest was never about seeing how much weight the people could lose. She wanted to see what everybody would gain, when they met new people and pushed themselves beyond anything they had ever done before.

“Friendships have been formed,” White explains. “I’ve gotten to know people that have been a part of our church for 10 years on a much deeper level in the past eight weeks than I have the whole 10 years before, worshipping next to each other.”

Tonight’s weigh in totaled how much weight all the contestants lost together, which was more than 500 pounds.

The winner, Thurman Hall, lost 30 pounds. Hall says he lost the weight because his wife signed up for the competition, and he didn’t want her to beat him in a contest.

Contestants say the best part of losing the weight wasn’t the pounds they shed from their bodies.

Kristen Arreola says it’s the friends and sense of community she has found throughout the eight week program.

“It really helps when you have people you can talk with, people you can compare notes to and exercise together. That fellowship and teamwork really motivates you,” Arreola said.

Christ Chapel says they were so pleased with the results of the contest, they plan to do it again, and invite even more people to participate.
