The American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage and is asking people to consider donating blood right away.
Regional Communications Manager Suzanne Lawler said the shortage is nationwide with supplies dipping for the month of July by more than 25% for all types of blood, especially Type O.
She said, a lot of the shortage is mainly due to it being summertime.
“Summer is always a tough time for us. People are traveling, there’s the 4th of July holiday. Summer is a tough time. Heat has really impacted our blood drives this summer. Think about it, when it’s 95 to 99 degrees as we’ve seen here in Central Georgia, you don’t feel like walking out the door and giving blood,” said Lawler.
But, if you’re interested in donating, the Red Cross has a number of drive dates and locations coming up.
