Teen arrested in armed robbery, carjacking in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A teenager was arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery and carjacking investigation, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies met with a Lyft driver at the intersection of Ell Street and Laveta Drive just after midnight Monday.

The victim told deputies he was transporting three men when, after arriving at a destination on Ell Street, the passengers brandished firearms. The men demanded the victim’s vehicle. The victim exited the vehicle, and the suspects drove away.

Deputies later spotted the vehicle on Log Cabin Drive and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and fled. The driver lost control near the intersection of Log Cabin Drive and Hillcrest Road and struck an embankment.

Two suspects fled on foot. A third suspect exited the vehicle holding a firearm and pointed it at deputies.

Deputies ordered the armed suspect to drop the weapon, but he attempted to flee. A deputy deployed a Taser and apprehended the suspect. The firearm was recovered and determined to have been stolen from the victim’s vehicle.

17-year-old Anthony Dewayne Goolsby of Macon was taken to a local medical facility for treatment of injuries and later transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Goolsby is charged with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, felony theft by taking and felony fleeing and eluding an officer. Bond was denied.
