Tech Report: Netflix raises prices as tech sector faces legal and market pressure
Streaming giant Netflix is raising prices across all of its subscription tiers in the United States.

(LILAMAX)- Streaming giant Netflix is raising prices across all of its subscription tiers in the United States, citing continued investment in programming.
The company’s standard plan with ads will increase by one dollar to $8.99 per month. Its ad-free standard plan will rise by two dollars to $19.99, while the premium tier will also climb by two dollars to $26.99.
The price hike comes amid broader turbulence in the tech sector. Shares of major social media companies declined following a Los Angeles jury verdict finding Meta Platforms and Alphabet Inc. negligent in protecting minors on their platforms.
Legal analysts say the ruling could have far-reaching implications, serving as a potential bellwether for hundreds of similar lawsuits filed by schools, states, and parents nationwide. The case reinforced longstanding claims by plaintiffs that social media platforms were intentionally designed to be addictive, particularly for younger users.
Meanwhile, American Airlines is exploring upgrades to its in-flight experience. The airline is reportedly in talks with SpaceX’s Starlink and Amazon to improve onboard internet and entertainment systems.
The carrier is also considering bringing back seatback screens on its narrow-body aircraft, as it faces increasing competition from rivals like Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, both of which have heavily invested in passenger amenities.
In another major development, Apple Inc. has discontinued its high-end Mac Pro desktop. According to reports, the company removed the $6,999 device from its website, marking a shift away from one of its most powerful machines designed for professional users.
The latest changes highlight a rapidly evolving tech landscape, where companies are balancing rising costs, legal scrutiny, and competitive pressures while continuing to invest in future growth.
