Tech Report: Meta employees work from home ahead of layoffs

Meta told its north America-based employees to work from home this week. This as it began a second round of layoffs that will immediately cut 4,000 jobs. Meta plans to eventually cull 10,000 jobs. Bloomberg reports that the job cuts will affect Meta’s flagship social network, Facebook, along with Instagram and WhatsApp. The Reality Labs Virtual Reality Division will also see cuts.

NYU researchers warn the rise of AI will only make big tech more powerful. They say the high cost of developing AI gives big tech companies an advantage. The NYU based AI research group believes that this power imbalance must be addressed now, before its too late.

LinkedIn names Amazon as the most sought after workplace in 2023. This is the third year in a row that Amazon has topped the list.

Starbucks launched 5 thousand more NFTs. They are up for grabs at $100 each. Each NFT is modeled after the original Starbucks storefront, which opened in 1971 in downtown Seattle. Starbucks will integrate the NFTs into its rewards program, allowing customers to redeem points for digital collectibles.
