Taylor County Commissioner Arrested for Child Molestation

Jerry Albritton was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with 3 counts of child molestation, according to Agent Scott Dutton with the GBI in Columbus.

The GBI spent several months investigating Albritton on claims he sexually molested “multiple children under the age of 16,” Dutton said.  The alleged incidents took place in Butler, located in Taylor County.   The Butler police department and sheriff’s office asked the GBI to conduct the investigation.

Butler’s police chief says he received a complaint from the mother of a 12-year-old girl three months ago, accusing Albritton of fondling her daughter.

The vice chairwoman of Taylor county’s board of commissioners, Patty James-Bentley, said Albritton’s arrest is ‘only based on allegations.’   She said they spoke by phone Thursday and he did not express any plans to resign.

Jerry Albritton has represented district 4 since 2001 and previously served as the vice chairman of the county commission, according to the Taylor county commission website.
