Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting after domestic dispute in Laurens County identified

LAURENS COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A domestic dispute turned violent on Thursday in Cedar Grove leading to an officer-involved shooting that left one suspect dead and multiple residents injured, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Laurens County deputies arrived on the scene in response to reports of an ongoing domestic disturbance. Once The deputy arrived, he discovered that the suspect had already fled the location. However, while the deputy was still on the scene, the suspect returned.

According to witnesses, the suspect drove his vehicle toward people standing in the yard before crashing into a parked car. The suspect then forced his way into the residence, where he brandished a weapon and assaulted several individuals inside.

The deputy engaged the suspect with deadly force. The victims of the assault were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, the severity of which has not been disclosed.

Sheriff Larry Dean of Laurens County has requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave.

The GBI will release further updates as the investigation progresses. The identities of the suspect and the victims have not been released at this time.
